Vigor – intensity and the ability to grow

For me, writing is a dance. Sometimes when I am dancing, my mind is whirling with ideas about what to write. Dance and writing are strongly linked in my brain. It’s like my whole body gets involved in putting words on the page. I am invigorated.

  • What’s your favorite way to express yourself?
  • What kinds of cross-connections does your brain make?

Did you notice the shadows?

I write in my dreams, too. Sometimes it’s recipes, a note to a friend, or part of a poem. I grab a paper and pencil as soon as I wake up and try to write some of it down. It’s usually too late. Now that the book is finished, it shows up in my dreams, too.

  • What do you create in your dreams? When you’re awake or when you're asleep?

You can see my two earthworm poems, “Place Making” and “Underground,” for more about vigor.
